Background Actors pay has not kept up with inflation!

The following 1990 pay scales are from:

We have not been able to verify these figures, but we are taking them as accurate, until proven otherwise.

The rate of inflation between January 1990 and August 2006 (latest month available) is 60.05%, which was calculated at:

(scroll down to the bottom of the page to calculate)

Some representative minimum salaries paid in 1990 were:

So as you can see Background Actors pay today,October 2006, for TV/Film and especially Commercials, is actually LESS than it was in 1990 (taking into consideration the rate of inflation). While Principals have gained more than the inflation rate, except in Commercials.

Something that the SAG Board should bear in mind when negotiations start next year for the new 3-year contract.
